Rachel Guidoni studied Tibetan and did her PhD in ethnology at the University of Paris X-Nanterre in 2006. Since 2002 she has been lecturing at the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO) in Ethnology and Geography in the Tibetan World (undergraduate level).
She has mainly worked in libraries. Since 2005 she has worked in specialized institutions that have a Tibetan core collection. From 2005 to 2012 she worked at the Bibliothèque universitaire des langues et civilisations (BULAC) where, in addition to managing the library’s Himalayan holdings (Tibet and Nepal), she was in charge of following up orders and of quality management of the catalogue. In 2009, in collaboration with the Collège de France, she contributed to the implementation of Tibetan in the national catalogue, Sudoc, which has made it a pioneering catalogue—unparalleled elsewhere— in the management of bilingual writings. From 2012 to 2015 she managed the network of nine libraries that belong to École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO) and she supervised the library of the Maison de l’Asie in Paris (which groups together the EFEO, École pratique des hautes études (EPHE) and École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) collections and teams). From 2015 to 2017 she worked at the library of the Institut d’études tibétaines of the Collège de France and was in charge of internal and external communications for the Collège’s fourteen libraries. She joined CEH where she worked until 2019. Already familiar with documentation on Asia and specialized in the processing and valorization of documentation on the Himalayas, her tasks included preparing the relocation of CEH’s collections to the Campus Condorcet in the north of Paris, while continuing to reference collections and to select new acquisitions in interaction with CEH researchers and in coordination with other libraries that have similar holdings in Paris. Since the end of 2019, she is Head of Collections at the library (Grand équipement documentaire) on Campus Condorcet.
Since 2012 she has also been a member of the Board of Directors of SFEMT (Société française d’études du monde tibétain), which enables her to promote library collections and services and to keep abreast of current research on the regions for which she ensures scientific monitoring and valorisation.
