Alice INGOLD, historian, lecturer at École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS). Her research topices include : the political and social history of environmental resources, knowledge of territories and water, political models for exercising control over nature since the French Revolution.
and Erik SWYNGEDOUW, professor of geography at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and visiting scholar at the Centre d’Etudes Européennes (Sciences Po) from January to July 2014. His research topics include : urban governance, environmental policies, "political ecology", the hydro-social cycle.
In 2013, within the space of a few months, two special issues of social science journals dealt with the theme of water. How are we to explain this (new ?) interest in water in human and social sciences ? Beyond any "stories about water", these works raise the crucial question of the approaches that should be privileged today in addressing a society’s relationship to water and in analysing the social construct that water management represents.
