Nyerang ka-ne in ? Where do you come from ? Anthropological approach to community-building processes in Zangskar, Indian Himalayas
Salomé Deboos
Abstract
The question "where do you come from ? "is one you can’t escape when you’re in Zangskar or in neighbouring valleys. The purpose of this presentation is to review the change in the way zangskar-pa define themselves today compared to how they presented themselves to me twenty years earlier.
In what way does the inclusion of a community in a political reality, on the one hand, and in an international monetary economic reality, on the other, lead members of this community to reposition themselves as individuals and/or persons in their relationship with each other, even though their relationship with a territorial and religious community is still alive ?
Based on anthropological observations in the field, I analyse the issues regarding the changes that have disrupted the social, political and economic structures of these communities whose social relationships have long been analysed in terms of kinship ties.
