Book abstract
Tullio De Mauro (1932-2017) was one of the great European intellectuals of his generation. This book pays tribute to him by highlighting the wealth of his scientific work and his public action.
His research first focused on the question of meaning with a work that solicited, in addition to the philosophy of language from Aristotle to Wittgenstein, the linguistics of his Italian masters and that of Saussure. This led him to translate into Italian the General Linguistics Course and to add a note-taking device, which is now indispensable to the understanding of the Geneva linguist.
